Starbucks KL Convention Center Totally Lets Me Down

Starbucks KL Convention Center @ 9am

This morning, I planned to chill at Starbucks at KL Convention Center before PC Fair starts. I wanted to have the breakfast set with an upgrade to latte. However, at 8:45am, it’s still not yet opened. By 9am, I decided to leave since it didn’t seem to keen to serve customer like me. After waiting for close to 15 minutes, another customer came and the Starbucks staff seemed to abide him by opening the store and served him first before me.

Don’t get me wrong, if you have been following my blog, you know I am a BIG fan of Starbucks. But, on a day where all of us know there is a huge event, PC Fair, that’s it at 10am. Most of the people working in PC Fair already thronged the eateries around KL Convention Center by 8:30am. But, Starbucks is still closed?

I’m surprised and totally let down by Starbucks. I can even say the Starbucks staff in KL Convention Center are the most unfriendly people I ever met. Could anyone tell me what’s going on?

Hot Coffee = Warm Feelings, Cold Coffee = Cold-blooded?

A new research has found that merely holding a hot coffee cup leads a person to see others as more generous and caring. Researchers also discovered that warm hands make people more inclined to give than to receive.

Scientists recruited 41 college students for what they thought was personality research. A lab worker escorted each participant up the elevator of Yale’s psychology building and casually asked for help holding her cup of coffee — either hot or iced — while she recorded the student’s name on a clipboard.

Those who had held the hot cup saw the person as more generous, sociable and good-natured than those who had held the cold cup — all traits that psychologists consider part of a "warm" personality, the researchers report in Friday’s edition of the journal Science. Yet there were no differences between the two groups on ratings of honesty, attractiveness or strength, traits not associated with either warm or cold personalities.

In the second study, students briefly hold one of those heat or ice pads sold in drugstores for pain, allegedly as part of product-testing. Really the test was which trinket the students chose as a thank you for participating: An ice-cream coupon or bottled drink for themselves, or one for a friend.

Students who held the hot pad were more likely to choose a reward for a friend, while those who held the ice pad were more likely to choose a reward for themselves.

So, do you want a hot cup of coffee or iced coffee?

Taiwan Company Recalls Melamine-contaminated Coffee

Recalling of products contaminated with Melamine which has been spread worldwide has now reached even coffee products.

According to Taiwan News, The King Car Co., a Taiwanese company, has reported that it has recalled packs of Mr. Brown instant coffee and milk tea containing contaminated milk powder imported from China.

The company says the products may contain small amounts of melamine, a chemical used in plastics. Melamine-tainted dairy products have already killed four children and sickened more than 6,200 others in China.

But King Car said on Sunday that its popular coffee product sold in steel cans is free of the chemical.

Starbucks to Open Stores in Holland’s Train Stations

Starbucks has inked a deal with food and beverage concessionaire Servex, a subsidiary of NS, the Netherlands’ largest passenger rail transportation company. A Starbucks is slated to open next spring in Amsterdam’s Centraal Station.

Starbucks plans to open more railway station stores as part of the company’s strategy to team up with licensed partners as it expands internationally.

It is quite odd, isn’t it? Especially with the recent closure of 61 Australian stores.
